At the conclusion of a lunch at a local restaurant last week, Gene Geiger, Chair of the Joint Charter Commission, made a direct request to the Governor of the State of Maine for an unknown amount of taxpayer money to help the cities of Lewiston and Auburn pay for the millions in "transition costs" which will pile up if the merger vote passes on November 7th. And, the Governor didn't say "No."
Both Jim Howaniec and I were astounded with the brazen request. Apparently, taxpayer hard-earned dollars can be thrown around like Monopoly money if it suits their needs.
Vote this horrible idea down. Save millions in taxpayer funds.
